Title: You're So Hypnotizing
Genre: Humor, romance, awkwardness :3
Rating: PG-13?
Pairings: MegamindxRoxanne
Warnings: None
*note* This is likely written in some kind of time warp because I know she wasn’t really seeing Bernard while working with Hal because Hal turned into Titan (or Tighten however you want to go with that) and Megamind was training him probably while all this was going on and that’s when she was dating him (wow this is really convoluted) but I kind of wanted to include him in on this just to further add to the jealous rage he flies into later. …Unless Megamind continued sending him to work under the guise of his normal chubby self with the aid of a handy dandy watch? I suppose that’s a possibility. EITHER WAY. WHATEVER IT'S KIND OF AU GOD.
Yeah okay /shuts up
It’s funny what love will make us do. The little tics and tocks in our significant others are overlooked in favor of their beauty, their intellect; their mannerisms and ways of doing things. It’s part of the human condition to love and people as a whole tend to revolve their lives around that very prospect – loving someone, and being loved themselves. Humans go out of their way for it – they stumble and stutter and spend all of their time and effort on someone, exhuming all of their monetary supplements and resources on that one single person that has captured their affection and taken over their minds.
Maybe that’s why she finds herself picking up her cell phone to text Bernard something ridiculously mundane that has little to do with their research on Megamind, something funny she saw that she thought he’d like, or an idea for something they could do later. The little Blackberry is almost always in her hand and it’s nearly an obsession to keep looking at it even when she knows he hasn’t responded yet. There’s a telltale little ding when it’s him – he’s the only person she’s ever bothered to designate a separate tone for, which seemed to irritate Hal, even if he didn’t know who it was she was texting.
Her phone chimed.
“Again? Jeez Roxie, it’s like you totally have another stalker.” Hal threw the camera into the back of the van a little harder than necessary. Because having Megamind kidnap her once a week wasn’t bad enough. Now someone was constantly blowing up her phone and every time she picked it up, she had that look on her face.
“Careful Hal, that’s expensive equipment.” Her voice is a little distant as her fingers quickly tap out a response.
“And it’s not a stalker. It’s just a friend.” Friend, boyfriend…? Was he her boyfriend yet? She wasn’t sure, but she liked to think that it was progressing to that level. She hadn’t mentioned to Hal any of this. While sweet and overall a good guy, Hal…was a little weird.
She tucks the cell into her pocket and hands her mic to Hal through the window of the van.
“Anyway, I gotta go. I have…work to do. Somewhere else.” Hal opened his mouth to say something but Roxanne was already walking in the opposite direction, smoothing the white collared shirt she wore.
Slinging her bag over her shoulder, she stuffed her hands into the pockets of her jeans and let her feet take her towards the little spot she’d picked. She was…excited - those little tingly butterflies that she’d been feeling fluttered nervously in her abdomen and the fingers of her right hand unconsciously pressed themselves into a fist in her pocket. She hadn’t felt like this in a long time, and while there was still a crazy supervillian on the loose, Roxanne felt…good. Like, really good – better than she had in a long time. That epic loneliness that had plagued the back of her mind (and had resulted in a certain amount of pestering from her mother) was easing; the walls and mental blocks that she had built up over the years were beginning to crumble down, one by one. She told Bernard things she had never told anyone; her hopes and her dreams and aspirations to become a reporter on a worldwide station and not just Metro City.
The bell on the diner rings as Roxanne pushes the door open and gives a friendly wave to the cashier behind the counter before sliding into a cracked vinyl booth. It was the atmosphere of the place Roxanne liked, the feel of something that’s been ticking for years and still cranking out the best hamburger in the city. Ordering a strawberry milkshake, she stirs it with a long handled spoon as she pulls out her phone, tapping the screen gently with her fingernail. She was early – she wasn’t supposed to meet Bernard for another half and hour, but –
“Good afternoon-!” She jumps when there’s a sudden presence across the booth from her and she laughs, reaching to playfully swat Bernard’s arm.
“You scared me, I thought you weren’t going to be here for another twenty minutes or so-!”
“Ah well, I was…er, already in the area, so I thought I’d just come on in and grab a table but you’re already here so we might as well just…ah…”
He’s flustered again, and it makes her smile. He’s like that sometimes when she’s with him, when their fingers brush accidentally or if they’re crushed against each other in a crowded elevator at the city library. It’s his almost…childlike excitement at doing the most trivial of things – bike riding in the park, reading at the library, going out for a simple cup of coffee – that draws her in, along with his thirst for anything and everything related to her.
She’s never had someone be so interested in simply her before. In what she likes and dislikes and what her favorite foods are and who her favorite rock band is. Roxanne answers all of his questions with a small smile, only pausing in his assault to sip gingerly at her shake then push it towards him with the faintest of blushes.
She’s blushing. How long has it been since she’s done that?
“Dean’s list,” she heard herself saying with a shake of her head. “I made the Dean’s list every year in college, I was an overachiever because I wanted to be the best journalism student in the school.” She rests her chin in her hand. “And right after college I started working for the station and clawed my way into the position I’m in now.” Roxanne grins and leans back, old vinyl creaking under her.
“Wow, a real tiger, huh?” Bernard’s giving her that look again, that one that’s filled with humor and loaded with affection. Returning his infectious grin, she meets his green eyes and presses her palms to the table as she gives him a mischievous wink.
“You don’t know the half of it!” She jokes, watching him look momentarily startled before he starts laughing along with her.
Yes, Roxanne thinks as she slides her hand across the table to twine their fingers together. This feels really good.

I’ll see you in a little while, then. That little diner with the black and white tiled floor. XOXO! :)
